AmPPhi was officially recognized by the Philippine Dragon Boat Federation on February 2012 and has continued to instill discipline, athleticism, camaraderie and leadership among its members and trainees since its founding. The team is composed of young professionals and students and with honorary members from the former Philippine National Dragon Boat Team.
Although relatively a young team, AmPPhi has achieved significant feats in a number of international dragon boat racing events. Barely five months from its founding, the team had its very first international race by representing Quezon City at the 2012 Taipei International Dragon Boat Championships where it finished 9th out of 84 international teams in the Mixed Crew Standard Boat Category. Two years after, the team redeemed itself by placing 3rd runner-up at the Finals B on the same category.
AmPPhi placed Second Over-all at the 2nd Celebes International Dragon Boat Festival held in Ujung Pandang, South Sulawesi, Indonesia on November 2013. It placed 2nd in both the 12-crew and 22-crew mixed international categories and 3rd in the 22-crew men’s open category. This was recognized by the City Council of Manila with a City Council Resolution. The team also performed well at the 2012 Surabaya, Indonesia Open Dragon Boat Tournament where its Women’s Crew bagged silver and the Men’s Crew ranked fifth.
Locally, AmPPhi regularly participates in the various legs of the Cobra-PDBF Dragon Boat Regatta. The team has also joined races in Zambales, Davao City and at the famous Taal Lake.
